Connections Globe Maker

Draw flows between countries as arcs on a rotatable globe, with a ranked list of each place's biggest connections. Upload origin and destination pairs and embed it anywhere. It's free.

Was ist ein Connections Globe?

A connections globe draws links between places as curved lines across a rotating globe. Each row of your data is one connection from an origin to a destination, and the thickness of the arc shows how large the flow is. Click a country and the globe highlights its connections while a leaderboard beside it ranks the biggest ones. Colour groups the arcs by category, and an optional slider or dropdown lets readers step through years or filter by region. It suits migration, trade, flights and capital flows, where direction and geography both matter. Country names, ISO codes and common spellings are recognised automatically.

Wann ein Connections Globe sinnvoll ist

  • Your data is origin to destination

Migration corridors, trade routes, flight paths and cross-border investment all map naturally to arcs between countries.

  • Geography is part of the story

Seeing which continents a country connects to is the point, and a globe shows that better than a table.

  • You want readers to explore

Readers can rotate the globe, click a country, hover for a tooltip and use a slider to step through years.

  • You want a ranked list alongside

The leaderboard names the top connections of the selected place, so the exact numbers are never hidden in the arcs.

Wann ein Connections Globe nicht passt

  • You need exact positions inside a country

Countries are placed at their centre. For cities or routes between airports, bind latitude and longitude, or use an arc map.

  • You need to compare many flows precisely

Arc thickness is hard to read at fine differences. A Sankey diagram or a bar chart compares magnitudes more accurately.

  • You need a flat, printable map

A globe shows one side at a time. A flat map shows every connection in a single view.

  • You have very many connections

Hundreds of arcs from one place turn into a tangle. Filter by year or region, or show only the largest flows.

Häufige Fehler bei einem Connections Globe

Misspelled place names

Names are matched exactly after ignoring case and accents. A typo resolves to nothing and the row is dropped, so check the spelling or use ISO codes.

Expecting cities to work

The built-in index covers countries and territories only. Add latitude and longitude columns for cities.

Leaving the sample data in

The template ships with illustrative migration rows that are not real statistics. Replace them before you publish.

Showing every flow at once

A dense globe is unreadable. Use a minimum value threshold or a filter to show the flows that matter.
