How to Create a 3D Map
A step by step walkthrough for building a tilted world map with points, raised countries and a timeline in PlotSet.
约 8 分钟You will end up with a world map seen at an angle, with a point for each row of your data and an optional timeline that plays them.
Expect about eight minutes. Most of it goes on choosing the camera angle and what the height of each country means.

One row per event or place, with a name, a latitude and a longitude and, if you want them, a date, a value and a country.
Latitude runs from -90 to 90 and longitude from -180 to 180, as plain numbers.
Write dates as ISO dates such as 2011-03-11 so the timeline can play them.
To raise countries, add rows with a country name and a value to total.
Only the name, latitude and longitude columns are required.

Open the 3D Map template
From the PlotSet dashboard, start a new project and choose 3D Map from the 3D Plots category. It loads with earthquakes from 1901 to 2020.

Add your rows
Import a CSV or .xlsx file, paste rows from a spreadsheet, or connect a Google Sheet. Each row becomes one point.

Check the column bindings
Bind the name, latitude and longitude columns first. Then add a value, a category, a country and a date if you have them.

Set the camera
In the 3D view tab, set the pitch, the bearing and the perspective. The Map tab picks the projection and the basemap style.

Raise countries by a value
In the Regions tab, turn extrusion on and choose which column sets each country's height and colour.

Style the points
The Points tab sets the style, the size and the colour. Turn on clustering if dense areas hide each other.

Add a timeline
Bind a date column and the Time tab plays the events as a sweep, with a counter and a graph under the map.

Publish and embed
Publish for a live chart and copy the embed code from the Share dialog. Check the map at the width of your page before you share it.

Share：公开链接与嵌入代码
打开嵌入代码和公开链接的开关，图表就发布出去了。链接可以放心发给任何人；嵌入代码以 iframe 的形式放进任意页面，悬停提示和交互效果都会保留。之后修改了图表，点「Recreate」就能把改动同步到链接和嵌入代码两边。
Export：SVG、PNG 或 JPG
「Export」会按你需要的尺寸输出一份静态副本。SVG 放到多大都清晰，还能在设计工具里继续编辑；幻灯片和文档用 PNG 或 JPG 最稳妥。想让图片在高分屏上够锐利，关键就是那个倍数设置。

Keep the pitch moderate
A tilt of thirty to forty degrees adds depth without squeezing the far side.
Shade and raise by different columns
Use one column for colour and another for height to show two things at once.
Filter with buttons
The Filters tab adds buttons that hide or dim rows by category.
Add a callout
The Annotations tab pins a line of text to a latitude and longitude.
制作 3D Map 时的常见错误
The map does not play
The date column is missing or not bound to Time. Use ISO dates in that column.
A country is not raised
Its name did not match. Use the English name or its ISO code. Very small countries have no shape in the base map.
Points look jumbled
Too many points overlap. Lower the size range or turn on clustering.
The map looks flat
The pitch is set to zero. Raise it in the 3D view tab.
