Interactive Data Explorer Maker

Let readers explore your dataset themselves. Bubbles you can resize, recolour, regroup, filter and search, with a map view built in. It's free.

O que é um Data Explorer?

A data explorer template turns each row of a spreadsheet into one mark, a circle, square or diamond, and adds a control panel beside the chart. The reader, not just the author, chooses what is plotted: which column sets the size, which sets the colour, how the marks are arranged across and down the chart, whether rows are merged into groups, and which category to filter to. A search box highlights matching marks, and a map view places each row by latitude and longitude or by country name. It suits a dataset with several numbers and categories that people will want to look at from more than one angle.

Quando usar um Data Explorer

  • Your data has many dimensions

Countries, companies or products described by several numbers and categories invite more than one question.

  • You want readers to explore

Give the audience the controls, so they can answer their own questions instead of reading a single fixed view.

  • You want a map as well

The same rows can switch to a point map, placed by coordinates or by country name.

  • You want to publish one flexible chart

One embed replaces a set of near-identical charts that only differ in the column they show.

Quando não usar um Data Explorer

  • You have one message

A reader-driven chart makes the viewer do the work. If you know the point, show it in a bar or line chart.

  • You need a precise scatter plot

For a fixed x and y with axes and labels you control, a scatter plot is simpler.

  • You need shaded regions on a map

The map view draws points, not filled country shapes. Use a choropleth map for that.

  • You need a static image

The controls only work in the live embed. A PNG captures a single configuration.

Erros comuns em um Data Explorer

Using a text column for size

The main value must be numeric. A column with units or symbols mixed in will not size the marks.

Offering too many options

Every column added becomes a choice. Trim the lists to the columns that answer real questions.

Starting on an unreadable view

Readers see your default first. Make sure the opening arrangement tells something at a glance.

Expecting a filled map

The map view shows points. Region names are placed approximately, so add coordinates when precision matters.
